Business and professions code 17500 is one of the most confusing guidelines out there. I love this section because it reminds us that a job is not just a job. A job is a responsibility. The business and professions code is a guide to what a job is. There are two things that make a job a job; it is a condition and a privilege. There are many conditions that a job would have to meet, but only two that are privileges and conditions.
The first is that a job might have to meet a high level of skill. A job that requires a high level of skill is a privilege. The second is that the skills of one who’s a part of a job are a condition. The only thing that makes a skill a condition is that it is a skill that requires a certain level of effort. This is called “skill level” and it’s a way to measure the level of skill a person has.
